A passive dorsiflexing ankle prosthesis to increase minimum foot clearance during swing

چکیده
Abstract The biological ankle dorsiflexes several degrees during swing to provide adequate clearance between the foot and ground, but conventional energy storage return (ESR) prosthetic feet remain in their neutral position, increasing risk of toe scuffs tripping. We present a new intended reduce fall by dorsiflexing joint swing, thereby minimum ground. Unlike previous approaches providing dorsiflexion such as powered ankles or hydraulic systems with dissipative yielding stance, our device features spring-loaded linkage that adopts angle allowing ESR, dorsiflexed swing. unit was designed, fabricated, assessed level ground walking trials on unilateral transtibial prosthesis user experimentally validate its stance phase behaviors. assessment consisted three conditions: an operational configuration, locked configuration (unable dorsiflex), subject’s daily use ESR prosthesis. When operational, (MFC) increased 13 mm relative 15 his Stance not significantly impacted configuration. increase MFC provided passive may be sufficient decrease rate falls experienced users real world.

Foot Clearance during Free Swing of a Transfemoral Prosthetic Leg: Four-Bar Knee vs. Ankle Dorsiflexion
Polycentric knees are frequently used in transfemoral prostheses because they provide added stability in stance phase and relative ankle dorsiflexion in swing phase. Despite this relative ankle dorsiflexion, patients still complain of inadequate toe clearance even with polycentric knees. We hypothesize that active ankle dorsiflexion via a knee-ankle coupling provides more toe clearance than pro...

Current commercially available prosthetic feet have succeeded in decreasing the metabolic cost and increasing the speed of walking compared to walking with conventional, mostly solid prosthetic feet. However, there is still a large discrepancy when compared with a non‐disabled gait, and the walking pattern remains strongly disturbed. During the stance phase of the leg, t...

Today, often ankle’s active prosthesis is used for transtibial amputated people’s walking, because these prostheses have some advantages such as increasing power and decreasing metabolism. In most of active prosthesis in order to create a movement or increase the force at the push-off, electrical actuators are used like a motor. In cases where a higher-power motor is necessary, the capacity, we...

In this research we design a passive controller for an above knee prosthesis. The controller is a linear spring and damper for swing phase motion, parameters of which determined via optimization of adjustment of the prosthesis shank motion with a desired shank angle trajectory comes from experimental data. In this way, we exerted a certain thigh motion, hip movement included, into the system as...
متن کاملOptimizing prosthesis design to maximize user satisfaction using a tethered robotic ankle-foot prosthesis
Lower-limb prostheses are designed based on observations of how users on average respond to different design features. Prostheses are then marketed on the basis that certain features are appropriate for certain types of individuals, with few options for user customization. This process is unlikely to provide individual users with devices that best suit their needs since it is unclear how to bes...
